First Overseas IIT Campus
Now, for the first time in its history, the IIT is planning to establish a campus outside India, in the African nation of Tanzania. The proposed IIT Tanzania campus will be located in Dodoma, the capital city of Tanzania, and will offer undergraduate and postgraduate courses in various disciplines of engineering and technology. Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) will open its first-ever overseas campus in Tanzania's Zanzibar in October 2023 with a batch of 50 undergraduate students and 20 master's students.
Admission Process
Admission to the IIT Tanzania campus will be similar to that of the IITs in India. Candidates will have to appear for a Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), which will test their aptitude and knowledge in physics, chemistry, and mathematics. The JEE will be conducted CBT Mode in offline exam centers, and the candidates will have to register on the official website of the IIT Tanzania campus. The JEE will be held twice a year, in January and April, and the candidates can choose their preferred date and time slot. The JEE will have two papers: Paper 1 for admission to undergraduate courses, and Paper 2 for admission to postgraduate courses. The candidates will have to qualify both papers to be eligible for admission.

India-Tanzania IT Mission
The establishment of the IIT Tanzania campus is a landmark initiative that reflects the growing ties between India and Tanzania, and the longstanding friendship and solidarity between the two nations. India was one of the first countries to recognize Tanzania's independence in 1961 and has supported its development efforts ever since. Tanzania is also home to a large Indian diaspora, estimated at over 50,000 people. The two countries have strong bilateral relations, with frequent high-level visits and exchanges.
Strengthening Relations
The IIT Tanzania campus is a part of the India-Africa Forum Summit (IAFS), a platform for enhancing cooperation and partnership between India and Africa. The IAFS was launched in 2008 and has since held three summits, with the latest one in 2015. The IAFS has identified several areas of mutual interest and benefit, such as trade, investment, infrastructure, energy, agriculture, health, education, and security.
Unmissable Opportunities
The IIT Tanzania campus is not just a symbol of India's commitment to share its knowledge and expertise with its African partners, but also a path-breaking initiative that will create new opportunities and avenues for collaboration and learning between India and Africa. The campus is expected to foster academic excellence, cultural exchange, and socio-economic development between India and Tanzania, as well as other African countries. The campus will also have state-of-the-art facilities for research and innovation, as well as collaborations with local universities and industries.
